I spent a little bit of time in 2018 working on a documentary project in Bali. Whenever I work on such projects, the people that I enjoy spending time with most are the local drivers and fixers - people who really know the territory and the culture. It's the best way to explore a place without feeling like a tourist - that you are working with friends. Wayan was just such a chap. I spent many hours on the back of his moped whilst we went to shoot at locations, gathering B roll. We talked a lot. And he very kindly introduced me to his village and extended family, and took me to the village Hindu tempe where his father and co-workers were creating the most exquisite carvings in the walls and features of the temple. Wayan talked about 'the intangibles' - the spirits that would roam the land and manifest themselves in various ways. I was quite taken with his belief and evangelistic style when it came to discussing his Hindu perspectives. This track pre-existed that visit, and had several different working titles previously...but settled into this labelling really nicely, and has inhabited it's meaning like a roaming intangible finally finding its resting place.
